Catalyst: Synergy

November 5-7
Charleston, SC

Have your students ever asked you what you did over the weekend? The answer is probably yes. However, in our experience the way each of us chooses to answer even this simple question indicates how much of your authentic self you are likely to share with the young people you work with. As teachers we are often told that having work/life balance is essential to being productive in the classroom. What if we told you that keeping your personal life and your professional life completely separate could potentially cause more harm than benefit?

Join Libby Golightly (Pro ‘14) and Julie Oxenhandler (Leadership ‘11) to reflect, explore, and build community with other Revolve members who still work in direct support for our students as we practice mindfulness, self-care, and, most importantly, learn strategies and tools for bringing an authentic version of yourself to your students every day.

Members of the Revolve community who work directly with students (teachers, counselors, service providers, etc.) and are seeking something more than “work-life balance” should apply to Catalyst: Synergy. We believe that we have both grown in how we present our authentic selves to our students, and that educators can learn a great deal from sharing with one another. Participants should want an experience that challenges them, allows them to reflect among peers, and gives them tools. The gathering will involve reflection and exploration of ways in which mindfulness in our lives can carry into our work with students. We will focus on how bringing an authentic self to our work can make us better able to connect with students and our work. Catalyst: Synergy will be especially meaningful for Revolve community members who intend to continue working directly with students and are looking for ways to  make their work sustainable and more rewarding. Catalyst: Synergy may be especially meaningful for participants who have recently started working with students and are exploring what work-life balance means for them.
