Catalyst: Nourish

September 8-10, 2017
Detroit, MI

About

Food serves as unifying, yet divisive force in our society. Catalyst: Nourish ventures into the intersection of food, culture, and social justice. We will work toward defining what community means to the individual and reflect on how our communities at home are lacking nourishment.

The City of Detroit will act as an example of different ways that food has been used to nourish and to develop communities. From the city’s sustainability initiatives to its Jewish roots, to tasting one of the nation’s up and coming restaurant scenes, you will have the opportunity to explore and utilize Detroit to better nourish ourselves and our communities at home.

Catalyst: Nourish will be a medium-sized gathering (30-40 participants).

WHO SHOULD APPLY

Our Catalyst is truly open to anyone in the Revolve community who enjoys food. The programming will be catered toward food in urban settings and therefore people living in non-urban settings may not find all the material as accessible and applicable to their communities. Participants need to be willing and ready to look introspectively at the role food plays in their lives. They will also need to think critically of the intersection between food and culture and the possible positive and negative roles that this plays in community development. The hope is that participants will use Detroit as a case study of how food through culture impacts individuals and communities in different ways depending on circumstances.

We will work with everyone on any dietary restrictions that they may have. There will always be an option for you that will satisfy your dietary needs. Please email us at revolvenourish@gmail.com with questions.
